Kochi: A restaurants in Kalamassery was shut down by police on Wednesday evening after eight people who consumed food there sought treatment at Ernakulam General Hospital.
The cops shut down the restaurant near Premier Junction in Kalamassery after invoking Sections including 269, 273, and 337 of the IPC against the restaurant owners and the staff. Nihas Muhammed, Nishad, Adhil, Fahadh, Fazil, Najmudheen, Prabhu, and Amal were the people who fell ill.
“We ate alfaham mandi from the hotel. Two of us vomited and others had stomach pain,” said Nihas Muhammed a native of Punnoorkulam in Thrissur, one among those who registered a complaint against the hotel owner.
When asked whether they had food from elsewhere before consuming food from the hotel, Niyas said: “Together, we did not consume food from elsewhere.” Food safety officer of the Kalamassery Circle Nimisha Bhaskar said the investigation did not find fault with any part of the restaurant and said she was unaware why the police closed down the hotel. “Neither could we find any problem with the restaurant, nor could we find fault in the food served,” she said. “We also took the statement from the doctor at General Hospital and he said it
